I will admit I was sadly disappointed with his (lack of) answer to the Greens debate debacle.

As far as I can tell from the local candidates office, Layton was just being firm that he'd only debate if Harper did, so when Harper backed out he did too. Then the media turned it as fast as they could into neither the NDP or Conservatives are debating.

He definitely showed skill with the questions. If he had said anything other than vote NDP it would have blew up in his face. And at very least every NDP vote gets him another couple dollars. I'm starting to think that I want the Liberals to completely die in this election, while the CPC keeps at most a minority. The Grits seem really corrupt of late and likely need a complete turnover before they're saved (think of how much they propped Harper for their own fear of an election).

I think he answered at least as much (if not slightly more) than other politicians would.

I was definitely glad it was uncut and we actually got to see full answers (as opposed to clips from rallys which don't cover anything).

"Brilliant?" I really don't think so. I found that massively disappointing, as he never really answered a number of the questions he was given. What stuck out in my mind was the question about the NDPer who was fearing a Harper majority - why bother voting NDP in a riding when they have zero chance of winning? He gave absolutely no answer to this question - at least, not the core issue involved here, which is the fact that unless you vote with everyone else around you, your vote means nothing.
